Trebic Town (UNESCO)

One of the oldest and most important centers of Jewish settlements . The Jews settled in this town , that was sitiated along the trade route between Vienna and Prague .
The pictoresque Jewish quarter was anaturally-evolving urban structure , complete with every element typical of a Jewish ghetto .
Squeezed in between the Christian town and the lord´s estate , maximum use of the available space made further evolution of its buildings impossible . You find here both the dark passages and melancholy streets.
There were built two synagogues the Front one and the Rear one , a town hall , rabbinate , school, hospital, poorhouse and a large cemetery outside of town.

The Jewish community reached its maximum population in 1835 , when the Jews made up a quarter of the town´s population . During the Nazi genocide in 1939-1945 280 people were send to the concentration camps and only 10 persons survived.

In the former Jewish quarter today there are 123 numbered houses aside from the synagogues, from the old original hostoric district only five houses have been lost . It is the best preserved original Jewish quarter in Europa . The Jewish ghetto is going to be on the list of the UNESCO protected monuments soon.

The Jewish Cemetery – it is the original medieval Jewish burial ground near the wall of the Benedictine monastery . Burials were evidently discontinued there in 1468 , and at the same time a new cemetery was founded beyond the hill at the edge of town. Today it is one of the biggest cemeteries of its kind in the Central Europa , with the area 11772 sq. metres. It is enclosed by massive walls , contains around 11 thousand graves , and nearly three thousand gravestones , the oldest of which dates from 1625.

Polna town

It is a small old medieval town where survived the Jewish ghetto that was founded in 1681 , but the Jewish settlement existed in the different place of the town much earlier . In the beginning of the 19th century the Jewish population made 12% of the citizens , but after the great fire in 1863 a lot of people left the town . In 1942 98 people were send to the concentration camps and only 5 women survived.

The Jewish quarter makes 32 houses with the sanygogue that survived completely that is a very unique . The synagogue is the most valuable building of ghetto from 1684. It was renovated after the end of the Communist regime and reopened again in the year 2000. The ghetto survived also its original triangle basis . The famous American actress and singer Barbara Streissand planned to make the movie Yentl here.
